Frequently Asked Questions about our courses


We provide useful information on our courses and workshops throughout the KnowLand site. We strive to help you find answers to your questions as quickly and easily as possible, we'll try to answers as many of your inquiries as possibles. Please contact by phone, email or contact form. KnowLand FAQ's

How do I register for a course?

Click on the course you’d like to take. If it’s our first time here, the system will ask you to register as a user. Once you do that, you will be directed back to the course to book your seat and/or pay.

How do I pay for a course?

Find a course you like, and follow the right side portion of the course page. Click on the Book or Pay button and follow the simple steps via our secure gateway payment system.

Are there any prerequisites?

Some course have prerequisites, but generally anyone can take courses without previous attending any other course.

Where are the workshops being held?

The exact location and schedule are in your registration confirmation. Most courses take place at KnowLand, downtown Ottawa, but we also at the Impact Hub, downtown Ottawa, Armada Lounge and Studio, in the Byward Market and at the New Ottawa Art Gallery

Course or Workshop? What's the difference?

A flash course is a fairly short class (about 2.5 hours) presentation conducted by your instructor. Workshops are smaller classes which allow discussion of lecture content and assignments. Workshops usually involve the participation of the students and engagement with assignments and activities. Most workshops are two day long and are usually held during weekends.

What is your workshop cancellation policy?

We have a liberal cancellation policy: you can cancel your enrollment up to 5 business days before your workshop and we will refund 100% of any prepaid course fees. If you need to cancel within 2 business days before your workshop, we will issue you a credit equal to 100% of any pre-paid tuition fees. This credit can be used towards another workshop.

If we need to cancel, change, or postpone a workshop for any reason, we will try to give you as much advance notice as possible. For those clients who are unable to attend a workshop because of a revised location or date, we will refund 100% of any pre-paid course tuition fees or give you an equivalent credit. Please note that we will not be liable for any costs incurred for travel, hotel, or any other expenses other than your course fees.

Can I reschedule my Workshop?

Our flexible to refund your money or allow you to transfer your enrollment to another workshop at any time without penalty as long as you let us know 5 business days before the workshop date.

What are your business hours?

We operate year round. Courses are hell throughout the year during weekdays and weekends. Please check KnowLand’s event schedule under the Register tab for specific course times.

Do course participants have homework?

Some instructors hand out exercises to be completed during class time or at home to help you develop your new skills. These exercises, like other coursework, are not graded. In general there are is no homework, however, we leave it to your discretion to complete work that you didn’t manage to finish during class.

What should I bring to the course?

Bring writing material: a pen, a pencil, paper, a notepad … We strongly recommend to bring your laptop or tablet. We provide free wifi LAN access, so you’re always connected! We also provide snacks and coffee or tea and bottled water. Bring a bottle if you like a water bottle that you can fill up at our fountain.

How are your workshops structured?

Expect your course to be highly participative. There are many group and individual exercises, case studies, and samples to critique.

The activities and methods will vary to keep you interested and stimulated. We’ll maintain a good pace so boredom won’t set in. We invite questions, comments, and discussion at any time if you wish (and only if you wish).

Breaks will be scheduled frequently so you can stretch, walk, talk, or make phone calls.

In general, the class atmosphere is friendly, inviting and as relaxing as possible.
